10 Mistakes for a blog …

10 Mistakes that Will KILL a Forum…. or Blog

This is posted up on Problogger.net by Darren Rowse and I hope to find several posts like this. One thing that I noticed right away is Commenting. I always thought that commenting was a huge plus to blogging vs just a normal website. But the more I read the more I start to realize I need to have a strategy for comments on my sites from the very beginning. I’m leaning towards having only registered users leave comments. I don’t want to turn moderating into a full time job, so ultimately if I need to turn it off I will. The too much adds comment seems to have a catch and that is the more content you have the more adds you can put on your site. I’m sure more experience will help with finding that nice sweet spot of balancing content vs ads but I do plan on using ads and I plan on not being shy about it. My goal is to create great content by sharing what everything I learn about blogging. And I know that there are tons of sites that do the same thing I’m doing, but hopefully my writing style and research skills will add to the overall value of this site. So basically, lots of content and just less than lots of adds is my goal. We’ll see how it goes…

Don’t take this the wrong way, after all I am brand new to blogging, but as a new reader of blogs, I find it very disracting to not be able to see the beginning of a post becaue the ads are there instead. Going along with your post, I don’t think you have to many ads, but I do find the location distracting.

Right now I’m spending an hour a day answering comments and emails, and I’m always behind. It is a very time consuming endeavor but I feel it is a key part of blogging. Without readers I’d be nowhere, but boy I wish blogs came with personal assistants, lol. :)
